10-Minute Walk Local Policy Framework

Shared Use Agreements

Expanding Recreational Options

Shared use agreements allow schools, sports fields, and other facilities to serve more people by opening them for community use outside regular hours. These agreements are especially valuable in neighborhoods that lack dedicated parks or where acquiring new land isn’t feasible.

Shared use agreements help communities make the most of existing public spaces. These agreements reduce barriers to recreation, strengthen partnerships among local organizations, and extend limited public resources—expanding equitable access to safe, welcoming places for people to gather, play, and connect.
