10-Minute Walk Local Policy Framework
Connectivity
Linking People to Parks
Connectivity policies—such as Complete Streets, trails, and bike-friendly pathways—help residents safely travel to and from parks. These connectivity strategies acknowledge that proximity alone doesn’t guarantee access if roads are unsafe or lack sidewalks, bike lanes, or other transit options. Equitable connectivity planning ensures that pedestrians, cyclists, and transit riders in every neighborhood benefit from accessible routes to parks and a healthier, more active lifestyle.
COMMUNITIES OF PRACTICE
Connecting People to Parks
Strategies to Increase Park Access
A 10-minute walk to a park is only meaningful if people can get there safely and reliably. This 10-Minute Walk Communities of Practice brought together city leaders, community partners, and park professionals to explore the connections between mobility, access, and equity. Participants examined the physical and social factors that shape how people reach parks—integrating transportation planning, safety, and community engagement strategies to ensure parks are accessible, inclusive, and welcoming to all.
